Double 8 Alpaca Ranch
Double 8 Alpaca Ranch has been raising alpacas in Purcellville, Virginia since 2005, when Doug and Bonnie Kittrell purchased their first herd and relocated to Loudoun County. The ranch sits in western Loudoun, about 35 miles from Washington, D.C., in a region that leads all Virginia jurisdictions in alpaca and llama numbers.
The breeding program centers on sound conformation, reproduction, notable genetics, temperament, and fleece characteristics, with huacaya alpacas making up the core of the herd. Nutrition and training are treated as foundational to animal health, and the herd is conditioned to accept routine handling for weighing, hoof care, deworming, and shearing. Fiber harvested from the ranch is either processed on-farm or sent to a mill, yielding yarn, roving, and finished goods.
Beyond animal sales, Double 8 offers mentoring and consulting services for new alpaca farmers in Virginia, and Bonnie Kittrell founded the Loudoun County 4-H Alpaca Club, through which local youth learn hands-on herd care and showing. The ranch also maintains membership in regional alpaca associations including MAPACA and the Virginia Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association.
