David Nolz has been raising purebred Limousin cattle outside Mitchell, South Dakota since 1982, when the operation began with a single purebred Limousin bull crossed onto a black baldy cowherd. The immediate gains in weaning weights and overall performance prompted a full transition from commercial cattle to a registered Limousin seedstock program, with the first bulls sold privately in 1984.

Located in the James River valley of central South Dakota, roughly an hour west of Sioux Falls, Nolz Limousin has spent more than four decades developing cattle with an emphasis on calving ease, milking ability, weaning and yearling weights, docility, and structural longevity. Consistency across the calf crop and long productive lives from both bulls and cows have been central selection priorities throughout the program.

The operation is a family affair built across generations. Dave and Peggy Nolz raised three daughters on the ranch, all of whom grew up showing Limousin cattle at events around the country. Bulls are developed on a controlled feeding program designed to bring out performance differences while preserving soundness, and each receives a breeding soundness evaluation before leaving the ranch.
