CSTa HAVANESE
CSTa Havanese (pronounced "siesta") raises Havanese puppies in the Fort Myers, Florida area, on the southwest Gulf Coast of the state. The program is a mother-and-daughter collaboration between Charlene Edwards and Shawn Hess, active since 2005, and is listed among the member breeders of the Havanese Club of America.
Health testing is central to the program, with all breeding dogs OFA-certified through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, and litters produced from AKC champion-titled parents. Breeding is intentionally kept to a limited frequency, roughly once or twice a year, with the focus on quality over volume, and each pairing is preceded by a careful review of pedigrees.
The dogs live in the home as full family members rather than in kennel settings. Puppies are handled and socialized from birth by family members of all ages, following a structured socialization protocol. The program does not ship puppies; families are expected to pick up in person, and placement decisions are guided by an application process designed to match each puppy to the right household.
