Cleo's Alpacas, LLC

Cleo's Alpacas, LLC raises alpacas in Mooresville, North Carolina, about 30 miles north of Charlotte. The farm is owned and operated by Betty Lou Herter and Cleo Ellen Kuhl, who relocated from a 130-acre property in the New York Finger Lakes region to start a new chapter in the Carolinas.

The herd numbers around 60 alpacas and includes juveniles, yearlings, bred females, and herd sires. Showing has become a central part of the program, with crias trained for the show ring each season and the farm earning ribbons across competitive classes. Outside breedings have also been part of the operation, expanding the herd's genetics over time.

Fiber production is woven into the farm's identity. Fleece is sent to a mill and returned as yarn and rovings, which alongside handmade alpaca goods are offered through Cleo's Country Cottage on the property.
