Carneys Havanese Haven

Carneys Havanese Haven, run by Jacqueline Carney, is a boutique Havanese breeder based in southeast Michigan, near the Detroit suburb of Birmingham. Breeding dogs since 2002, Jacqueline began with English shepherds before transitioning to Havanese after several years of careful research, including attending dog shows and meeting breeders across the country.

Health testing is a central part of the program. All breeding dogs must pass hearing evaluations via the BAER test, eye certification (CERF), and screenings for heart, hips, and elbows before they are bred, and both parents carry the CHIC health rating. Litters are raised inside the home using the Puppy Culture protocol, which begins at three weeks of age and emphasizes confidence-building, early socialization, and exposure to varied objects and environments. Newborns spend their first five weeks in Jacqueline's bedroom before joining the adult Havanese in a room off the kitchen. Jacqueline is a member of both the AKC and the Havanese Club of America, and has served on the board of the Great Lakes Havanese Club, including more than ten years as its treasurer.
