Carnation Farms

Carnation Farms raises Katahdin sheep in Carnation, Washington, situated in the Snoqualmie Valley about 30 miles east of Seattle. The farm is managed by Alex Hagiepetros and has roots going back to 1908, operating today as a nonprofit focused on regenerative agriculture across its 818 certified organic acres.

Katahdin sheep are part of a broader livestock program that includes several other sheep breeds selected for their natural fit with Pacific Northwest conditions. The Katahdins are valued on the farm as a hair sheep variety whose coats shed naturally, a practical trait well-suited to the wet climate of the region. All sheep are raised on certified organic pasture and haylage, with no growth hormones or unnecessary antibiotics used.

Grazing management is central to how the flock is kept. Cattle and sheep rotate through pastures in a system designed to build soil health and support pasture recovery through timed rest periods, with animals moved regularly to promote regrowth and natural fertilization.
