Unclassified Variety
An unclassified variety zebra cichlid is a zebra cichlid that has not been assigned to a specific color strain, domestic variety, or Lake Malawi locality label. It may be a young fish, a trade import without collection data, or a captive-bred animal whose parents were not recorded clearly. Unclassified is better than guessing, especially in a group where many blue, barred, red-top, and orange-blotch forms can overlap.
Care should focus on stable mbuna conditions: mineral-rich water, rock piles, grazing surfaces, and enough space to manage aggression. For breeders, unclassified fish should be kept out of locality-pure projects unless their background can be verified. They may still work well in display aquariums, but the record should stay honest so future keepers do not mistake them for a clean variety line.
