Mixed Strain

A mixed strain yellow mealworm is a Tenebrio molitor culture made from more than one colony, supplier line, or selected breeding group. In feeder and insect-culture language, strain usually refers to practical traits such as growth speed, larval size, color, pupation timing, or tolerance of a particular rearing setup. Mixed strain does not describe a pet breed; it describes how a production colony has been assembled.

Mealworm keepers manage mixed strains by watching the colony rather than relying on a name. Useful records include start date, source colonies, substrate, moisture foods, temperature, beetle turnover, die-off events, and any selection for larger larvae. Clean bins, dry bedding, controlled humidity, and regular separation of life stages can matter more than strain identity, especially when the culture is used for reptiles, birds, fish, or small livestock.

Colors: Black, Brown, Dark, Gold, Light, Tan, White, Wild Type
