Unclassified Strain
An unclassified strain yellow mealworm is a mealworm culture that has not been assigned to a named production or laboratory strain. It may be a common feeder colony, a small home culture, or stock from a supplier that does not separate lines by performance. The label is useful because mealworms are usually managed as colonies with measurable traits, not as named animal breeds.
In practice, colony quality shows up in growth consistency, low mite pressure, clean pupation, and a steady supply of larvae at the desired size. Rearers should track bedding changes, moisture sources, heat, crowding, and any new beetles added to the colony. If a strain later proves useful for size or productivity, it can be selected and recorded; until then, unclassified is the most honest description.
