Uruguayan Black Beauty Tarantula
Grammostola quirogai
The Uruguayan black beauty tarantula is the hobby name for Grammostola quirogai, recorded from Uruguay and Brazil and described in 2016. Adults are robust and have a dense, velvety, jet-black covering of hairs. Much of the black Grammostola stock sold in the hobby as the Brazilian black tarantula (G. pulchra) is thought to be this species, so keep breeder records with the scientific name.
Provide secure, ventilated ground-level housing with substrate, a sheltered retreat and drinking water. Offer appropriately sized insects and leave it undisturbed during molts. Avoid handling, especially above a hard surface. Females lay eggs in a silk sac.
