Gekko gecko
The Tokay Gecko (Gekko gecko) is a striking and robust lizard native to the rainforests of Southeast Asia, renowned for its vibrant coloration and distinctive vocalizations. Adult Tokay Geckos can reach up to 30-40 centimeters in length, making them one of the largest gecko species. Their skin features a captivating mix of blue-gray with bright orange or red spots, providing effective camouflage among the foliage. Known for their loud "tokay-tokay" call, which is how they got their name, these geckos are primarily nocturnal hunters. They feed on a diet of insects and small vertebrates, utilizing their quick reflexes and strong jaws to capture prey. Tokay Geckos are arboreal, often found clinging to tree trunks or the walls of buildings in urban areas. Despite their captivating appearance, they possess a feisty temperament and are known to deliver a strong bite if threatened. This species serves an important role in controlling insect populations but is also facing threats from habitat loss and capture for the pet trade. Nonetheless, the Tokay Gecko remains a resilient and fascinating creature, continually captivating both scientists and reptile enthusiasts alike.
