Unknown Breed
An unknown-breed severe macaw is a severe macaw whose species identification is known but whose breeder line, hybrid status, or detailed background has not been verified. Severe macaws are not domestic breeds; Ara severus is a naturally occurring macaw species also known as the chestnut-fronted macaw. Most have green body plumage, a dark beak, bare facial skin with fine feather lines, a chestnut forehead, and blue on the wings and tail.
Unknown background is common in rehomed parrots and does not tell much about temperament by itself. Care planning should be based on the bird's current health, feather condition, social comfort, and response to handling. Severe macaws need more space and stronger materials than many new keepers expect, along with a varied diet and daily work for the beak and mind. Birds without clear ancestry are best kept out of programs that aim to maintain pure species pedigrees.
