Mixed Breed

Mixed breed salmon-crested cockatoo is an informal label for a bird whose background may include salmon-crested cockatoo ancestry but is not cleanly documented as a pure Cacatua moluccensis. In parrots, the phrase breed is often imprecise; species, hybrid status, and individual history are the more useful terms. The bird may still show the white body, pale peach wash, and salmon crest associated with the species, but visual traits alone cannot settle ancestry.

Practical management should focus on the bird's needs and placement limits. Salmon-crested-type cockatoos are long-lived, emotionally demanding parrots that require daily enrichment, durable housing, veterinary care, and handlers who understand loud contact calls and pair-bond behavior. Sanctuaries and rescues should document uncertainty so the bird is not placed into conservation breeding. For adopters, mixed status is less important than temperament, bite history, feather condition, and whether the home can support a large cockatoo for decades.
