Crossbred
A crossbred salmon-crested cockatoo is best understood as a management label for a Moluccan cockatoo with suspected or documented hybrid ancestry, not as a recognized breed. Salmon-crested cockatoos are large white cockatoos with a pink to salmon crest and strong social needs, and true species identity matters for conservation, placement, and breeding decisions. Crossbred status should be based on records or expert assessment, since appearance can be misleading.
These birds belong in experienced companion, sanctuary, zoo, or rescue settings with serious attention to enrichment, noise, pair bonds, and long-term placement. Breeding crossbred cockatoos is usually discouraged where conservation or species-pure management is a priority, especially for a threatened island species. Care records should note origin, behavior, diet, medical history, and any legal transfer requirements. A crossbred label can help prevent unsuitable pairing while still supporting the individual bird's welfare.
