The European Roe Deer, also known as Capreolus capreolus, is a graceful and adaptable ungulate that is widespread across the continent. This breed of roe deer is notable for its compact and slender build, typically standing up to 75 cm at the shoulder and weighing between 15 to 35 kilograms, with males slightly larger than females. Their coats exhibit a fascinating seasonal variation, transitioning from a rich, reddish-brown in the warmer months to a thicker, grey-brown during the winter, providing excellent camouflage against their wooded habitats.

The European Roe Deer features a distinctive white rump patch, and during the colder months, the males grow short, rough antlers, which they shed and regrow annually. Known for their solitary nature, except when mothering young or during the mating season, these deer thrive in diverse environments ranging from dense forests to open grasslands. Their diet predominantly consists of leaves, shoots, and herbs. Adapted to both rural and semi-urban settings, the European Roe Deer is a common but captivating sight, revered for its poise, agility, and ability to quietly navigate its environment.

Colors: Reddish-Brown in summer, Gray-Brown in winter
