Crossbred

A crossbred red-shouldered macaw is a hybrid or mixed-line bird with Diopsittaca nobilis ancestry rather than a separate wild species. Red-shouldered macaws are the small macaws often called Hahn's macaws in the pet trade, and crossbred birds may show mixed size, head shape, shoulder color, and temperament traits from related mini-macaws or other parrots. The label should be used honestly so buyers understand both the ancestry and the limits of prediction.

Care should be based on the individual bird, not on the assumption that a smaller macaw is simple. These parrots need a strong cage or aviary, daily out-of-cage time, chewable enrichment, training, bathing, and a varied diet built around formulated food, vegetables, and measured treats. Hybrids should not be represented as pure stock in breeding programs or conservation contexts. Owners should keep hatch records, parent information, and any health history, since crossbred parrots can be long-lived and may change homes during their lifetime.
