Unknown Breed
Unknown breed pin-tailed parrotfinch is a placeholder used when the bird is identified as Erythrura prasina but its captive line, mutation status, or parentage has not been recorded. Many pin-tailed parrotfinches have no formal breed identity at all, so unknown may simply mean the seller, rescue, or keeper did not know whether the bird came from a normal green line, a blue or lutino mutation, a pied family, or mixed aviary stock. Juvenile plumage and worn feathers can also make color labels harder to assign.
For day-to-day care, the unknown label changes little. The bird still needs a secure warm flight, planted or sheltered perches, clean water for bathing, and a diet based on small finch seed with greens and breeding-season protein. It does affect breeding decisions: unknown birds are better treated as unverified stock, not as founders for a labeled strain. Clear notes made at intake protect future keepers from accidentally presenting them as documented birds.
