Crossbred
Crossbred pin-tailed parrotfinch is an informal aviary label rather than a formal breed name. It usually describes Erythrura prasina birds produced from different captive lines, color mutations, or poorly separated breeding groups, and in some collections it may signal suspected hybrid influence from related parrotfinches. The species is a small Southeast Asian estrildid finch, active and slender, with wild-type green body color, blue facial tones, and a red rump and tail on typical adult males; captive birds may also be recorded as blue, lutino, or pied.
These birds are managed as pin-tailed parrotfinches, but their ancestry should be stated plainly when they are bred, sold, or transferred. Crossbred stock is usually best kept out of projects meant to preserve a specific mutation, locality line, or species-pure pedigree. In the aviary they need warmth, quiet cover, fine seed, greens, and extra protein such as egg food or small live foods when nesting. Accurate cage cards help later keepers avoid accidental line mixing.
