Mixed Breed

Mixed Breed

Mixed breed is an informal label for a Pacific parrotlet whose captive background is blended, undocumented, or outside a breeder's usual line names. Forpus coelestis is not divided into long-established domestic breeds in the way many mammals are; most variation in aviculture is described by color mutation, sex, and family line. A mixed-breed bird may still be a normal green parrotlet, or it may show blue, American yellow, European yellow, pied, lutino, albino, or white coloring.

Pet care should be planned around the species rather than the label. Pacific parrotlets are tiny but not delicate in personality, and many are bold, pair-bonded, and quick to defend a favored person or cage. They do best with secure small-parrot housing, foraging work, predictable handling, and a diet that avoids an all-seed routine. Anyone breeding a mixed-background bird should disclose what is known about its parents and avoid presenting uncertain colors as proven mutation lines.

Colors: Albino, American Yellow, Blue, European Yellow, Lutino, Normal Green, Pied, White
