Crossbred

A crossbred Pacific parrotlet is a small Forpus coelestis with known mixed parentage, usually from different captive color lines rather than from a formal breed system. Pacific parrotlets are native to dry forests and scrub of western Ecuador and northwestern Peru, and the wild form is mostly green, with males showing blue on the wings and rump. Captive birds may be normal green, blue, pied, yellow, lutino, albino, or white, depending on the mutations carried. If a bird has ancestry from another Forpus species, it is better described as a hybrid and that background should be stated clearly.

Care does not change because the bird is crossbred: these are active, assertive parrots that need a roomy cage, daily out-of-cage exercise where safe, and steady social handling. Diet is usually based on quality pellets or a balanced small-parrot mix with vegetables, greens, and limited seed. Breeders track pairings carefully because some mutations are sex-linked or recessive, and because parrotlets can be territorial around nests and mates.

Colors: Albino, American Yellow, Blue, European Yellow, Lutino, Normal Green, Pied, White
