Georgia Giant

The Georgia Giant northern bobwhite is a domestically selected strain of Colinus virginianus developed for a larger body than the standard wild-type bobwhite. Hatcheries market it for meat, egg production, and flight-bird programs, and most birds carry the normal brown, buff, black, and white bobwhite pattern. It should be understood as a farm or gamebird line, not a recognized subspecies; individual stock may differ in mature size, growth rate, and flightiness depending on selection.

Georgia Giants are commonly raised in brooders and grow-out pens with high-protein gamebird feed, dry bedding, and protection from drafts when young. Mature birds may be kept in breeding trios, colony pens, or flight pens, with pen design matched to whether the goal is eggs, dressed birds, or release-quality birds. Anyone buying hatching eggs or chicks should confirm permit rules and ask how the line has been selected, since very heavy bobwhites may not perform like wild birds in the field.
