Morelet's Crocodile
Crocodylus moreletii
Morelet's crocodile is an egg-laying crocodilian of Mexico, Belize and Guatemala, chiefly using freshwater wetlands. Adults have a relatively broad snout, dark olive-brown body and armored back. Zoo and specialist collections maintain it. Housing needs substantial water, land, secure barriers and professional management, with crocodilian permits where required. CITES Appendix I applies except to the Belize and Mexico populations listed in Appendix II, subject to annotations.
