Meyer's Parrot

Poicephalus meyeri

Meyer's Parrot (Poicephalus meyeri), commonly known as the brown parrot, is a small, stocky parrot native to the woodlands and savannas of Sub-Saharan Africa, ranging from Chad in the north to South Africa in the south. This charming bird is recognized for its predominantly dark brown plumage accented by bright turquoise or greenish patches on its wings and rump, as well as a noticeable yellow crown and sometimes a yellow patch on the wings, which varies among its six subspecies.

Measuring about 21-22 centimeters in length, Meyer's Parrots are relatively quiet compared to other parrots, making them attractive pets. In the wild, they are social and often found in pairs or small flocks. They have a varied diet that includes seeds, fruits, and occasionally small insects, which they forage for using their strong beaks and agile climbing skills. Known for their gentle nature, Meyer's Parrots can form strong bonds with humans and are capable of mimicking sounds, though they are less vocal than some of their parrot relatives. Conservation-wise, they are currently not considered threatened, thanks to their adaptability to different habitats, although deforestation and pet trade pose potential risks to their populations.

Colors: Normal Green
