Mixed Variety
A mixed variety lemon tetra is a Hyphessobrycon pulchripinnis group that is not being kept as a single named strain or selected aquarium variety. Lemon tetras are small South American characins recognized for a translucent yellow body, dark markings in the dorsal and anal fins, and active schooling behavior. Mixed variety fish may include ordinary wild type stock and any informal aquarium selections that have been bred together.
Aquarists should manage mixed variety lemon tetras as social community fish rather than as a defined breeding line. A group of several individuals, clean warm water, planted cover, and peaceful tankmates bring out better color and behavior. Breeders who want consistent appearance should separate selected pairs and keep notes on parentage, because mixed groups can produce uneven color intensity and fin marking.
