Kimberley Rock Monitor
Varanus glauerti
The Kimberley rock monitor is a slender monitor of northern Australia, associated with rocky country and trees. Adults have dark heads and necks, rows of pale bluish spots along the back and bold pale bands on a very long tail. It is kept and bred by monitor specialists.
Housing needs generous climbing space, stable rock crevices, warm basking areas and cooler retreats, with insect prey and appropriate nesting substrate. Females lay eggs. Its narrow build and long banded tail distinguish it from heavier-bodied Australian monitors.
