F1 Hybrid
An F1 hybrid camel is the direct first-generation offspring of a pure dromedary camel and a pure Bactrian camel. These crosses have been produced for centuries in regions where one-humped desert camels and two-humped cold-steppe camels meet, with names varying by language and breeding tradition. F1 animals are often large, powerful camels with a single long hump or a hump that shows a shallow division, taller legs than many Bactrians, and more body mass than many dromedaries. Their coats are commonly brown, reddish brown, or darker in winter, and the degree of wooliness depends on parentage and climate.
Pastoralists and working-camel breeders have used F1 hybrids for caravan work, pack and draught use, riding, meat, milk, and ceremonial or competitive uses such as camel wrestling in some areas. They are usually managed by people already familiar with camel behavior, because their size and strength require good training from a young age. Nutrition is based on rough forage and browse, with minerals and water planned around workload and season. If F1s are bred onward, the next generation should be documented carefully because backcross offspring vary more than the first cross.
