Crossbred

A crossbred hinny is a hybrid equine from a male horse and a female donkey, with parent breeds or types that are mixed, informal, or not recorded as a single program. The word crossbred can describe the horse side, the donkey side, or both. Because hinnies inherit traits from two domestic equine species, individuals may look more horse-like or more donkey-like within the same broad category.

Handling and care should be based on the individual animal rather than assumptions about hybrids. Some crossbred hinnies are quiet and deliberate, while others are forward and athletic if the horse sire contributes that build. Regular hoof trimming, forage control, dental work, and calm training are central. For transfers, source notes help explain expected mature size and use, but a practical assessment under saddle, in harness, or on the ground is usually more informative than the word crossbred alone.
