Henkel's Flat-Tail Gecko
Uroplatus henkeli
Henkel's flat-tail gecko lives in forests of northern and northwestern Madagascar. Its large mottled body, skin fringes and broad flattened tail help it blend into bark while resting by day. It is established in specialist gecko collections and captive breeding. A tall planted enclosure needs climbing trunks, shaded resting places, ventilation, regular drinking droplets and insect prey; excessive heat is unsuitable.
Females lay eggs. It is larger and broader than the slender lined leaf-tailed gecko, and belongs to the bark-mimicking Uroplatus group.
