Unknown Morph

An unknown morph golden poison frog is not a separate color variety; it is a practical label for Phyllobates terribilis when the keeper cannot verify whether the frog belongs to a yellow, orange, mint, white, wild-type, or other captive line. The golden poison frog is a large poison dart frog from humid forest in western Colombia. Color alone is a poor record, since age, lighting, and line history can make unrelated animals look similar.

For breeders, unknown morph status should stay with the animal and its offspring unless better documentation appears. Moving such frogs into named lines can erase the history that other keepers use to manage small captive populations. Husbandry is the standard species-level approach: stable warmth, high humidity, leaf litter and cover, well-drained substrate, and frequent small insects such as fruit flies, springtails, and tiny crickets. Handle only when necessary, and check local rules before acquiring this species because some areas regulate poison dart frogs or exotic amphibians.

Colors: Mint, Normal/Wild Type, Orange, White, Yellow
