Unclassified Morph
An unclassified morph golden poison frog is a Phyllobates terribilis individual whose color form or locality background has not been assigned to a recognized captive line. The species comes from Colombia's Pacific lowland rainforest and in nature is associated with intense yellow, orange, mint, and pale color forms. Wild golden poison frogs carry powerful skin alkaloids obtained through their diet. In captivity, a frog listed as unclassified may resemble a named morph but lack the origin information needed to place it responsibly.
The label matters because poison frog keepers try to preserve traceable lines rather than blending look-alike populations. Unclassified animals are usually kept as display frogs or bred only within similarly documented stock, with offspring identified honestly. Care follows the species rather than the label: a warm, very humid planted vivarium, abundant tiny feeder insects, clean water, and little direct handling. Captive-bred frogs generally lack the extreme wild toxicity because they are not fed the same alkaloid-bearing prey, but their skin is still sensitive and should not be touched casually.
