Mosaic
Mosaic fancy guppies are Poecilia reticulata strains with a patchwork pattern, usually concentrated in the caudal fin and often echoed in the dorsal fin. The tail shows irregular blocks, veins, or islands of color, commonly mixing red, orange, blue, yellow, black, and iridescent tones. Mosaic differs from grass guppies, which tend to have finer dotting, though the two labels can blur in commercial stock. Blue mosaic and green mosaic are common subtypes, and males are judged largely on tail spread, pattern balance, and contrast.
Mosaic guppies need the same basic care as other fancy guppies, but their broad patterned fins show damage quickly in rough community tanks. Breeders usually keep them in line-bred groups so the tail pattern stays bold rather than dissolving into random speckles. Females may look plain, so retaining females from proven parents is important when continuing a strain. Fry should be grown long enough for the caudal pattern to develop before final selection. For buyers, a clean body and healthy fin edges are just as important as a dramatic tail.
