Green
Green fancy guppies are ornamental color strains of Poecilia reticulata selected for emerald, teal, or metallic green tones on the body, dorsal fin, and caudal fin. True green is harder to fix than red or blue because the effect often comes from iridescent blue layered over yellow pigment, so fish sold as green may range from turquoise to olive. The label appears on solid green lines as well as green cobra, green grass, green mosaic, and Moscow-influenced guppies. Males show the strongest color and fin shape, while females are usually plainer but may carry important green pattern genes.
In aquariums, green fancy guppies do best in warm, clean, moderately hard water with gentle filtration and peaceful tankmates. Subtle green sheen changes under different lights, so buyers comparing strains should look at unedited photos or video of mature males. Breeding projects focus on keeping the color from shifting too blue or yellow, while also maintaining strong females and normal fertility. Separating promising fry before random colony breeding helps preserve a cleaner green line.
