Dragon
The dragon label in fancy guppies covers Poecilia reticulata strains with a heavy metallic or scale-like body pattern, usually paired with bold tail color. Red dragon guppies are especially common, while blue dragon, green dragon, and other versions appear in Asian and international show lines. The body often looks silver, white, or iridescent, with a plated sheen that contrasts with the caudal fin. Dragon is a trade and show-style term rather than one simple gene, so fish from different breeders may not match closely.
These linebred guppies are managed for both color and stamina, because very large tails and close breeding can weaken a strain. Warm clean water, gentle filtration, and enough open swimming room help males display without tearing fins. Crosses between dragon color lines can produce interesting fry, but they often blur the metallic body pattern that gives the strain its name. A sensible purchase is an alert fish with symmetrical fins, a straight body, and clear scale shine, not just the biggest tail in the tank.
