Albino
An albino fancy guppy is a Poecilia reticulata color form with greatly reduced melanin, the dark pigment that gives normal guppies black eyes and shadowing. The red or pink eye is the usual giveaway, and the body often looks lighter, clearer, or more translucent than a comparable non-albino fish. Albino can be layered onto other fancy patterns, so hobbyists may see albino koi, cobra, blue, grass, half-black, or dumbo ear guppies. Without black pigment, reds, yellows, whites, and pale blues tend to stand out in a softer way.
Care is much like that of other fancy guppies, though many albinos are easier to view under moderate lighting than under a harsh bright lamp. They thrive in warm, stable, reasonably hard water with peaceful tankmates and frequent small water changes. Breeding a true albino line means separating red-eyed fish from normal-eyed siblings and keeping notes on which females carry the trait. When choosing stock, look beyond eye color for active swimming, straight spines, full bodies, and fins that are not clamped or ragged.
