Mixed Breed
A mixed breed dwarf hamster is a pet dwarf hamster whose ancestry is not known or appears to combine common Phodopus lines, most often Campbell's dwarf hamster with winter white influence in markets where both are sold together. These animals may show wild-type agouti, argente, albino, black-eyed white, dark grey, dominant spot, or other color genes without a clear family background. They are small, quick hamsters with furry feet, cheek pouches, and a dorsal stripe in many patterns, but coat color alone is not a reliable guide to ancestry.
Care is based on the needs of the individual rather than the label: a secure enclosure with deep bedding, a correctly sized solid wheel, sand for coat maintenance, and a diet built around a quality dwarf-hamster mix with modest protein and limited sugar. Many keepers house them singly because adult pairs can injure each other even when sold as companions. If breeding is considered, unknown hybrid background and diabetes risk in some Campbell's-type lines make health history more important than producing rare colors.
