Dumeril's Monitor
Varanus dumerilii
Dumeril's monitor is an egg-laying monitor of Southeast Asian lowland forests and wetlands. Adults are usually muted brown with pale markings and a thick tail, unlike the vivid orange-headed juveniles. Specialist keepers provide a large secure enclosure with water, ground shelters, climbing structure and a controlled tropical climate; animal prey forms its diet.
Its substantial adult size and strength require planned management. It is a separate species from the roughneck monitor, with which brown adults can be confused in trade.
