Unclassified Morph

Unclassified morph is a broad label for a giant day gecko, Phelsuma grandis, whose color pattern has not been placed in a named captive line. It may show ordinary green and red wild-type markings, extra red spotting, blue tones, yellow highlights, or a darker cast, but the animal lacks enough documentation for a more specific morph name. This is a common situation in day geckos because many trade labels are descriptive and can vary between breeders.

For keepers, an unclassified morph should be chosen for health, behavior, and captive-bred status rather than for a speculative color name. Giant day geckos need vertical space, bright lighting, UVB, a warm basking area, and planted cover that supports their arboreal habits. They feed on nectar-style prepared diets and small insects, and they are best moved with cups or enclosure furniture instead of direct grabbing. If used for breeding, unclassified animals are better represented honestly as such unless offspring records establish a consistent, recognizable line.
