Mixed Morph

A mixed morph day gecko is a captive-bred Phelsuma grandis, commonly called the giant day gecko or Madagascar giant day gecko, with combined or uncertain color-line traits. The species is naturally bright green with red markings on the head and back, but breeders also select for high red, blue spotting, high yellow, light or dark phases, and other descriptive looks. Mixed morph animals may be attractive displays, yet the label usually means the gecko does not belong to a single, consistently defined line.

Husbandry is the same as for other giant day geckos. They do best in tall, well-lit terrariums with live or sturdy plants, basking access, UVB, and humidity that rises and falls through the day. Their diet commonly combines fruit-based day gecko or crested gecko formulas with small insects. Because their skin tears easily and many individuals are quick, they are usually managed as display animals rather than handled pets. Breeders should be clear when selling mixed-line offspring so named color projects remain traceable.
