Central American Eyelash-Pitviper
Bothriechis nigroadspersus
The Central American eyelash-pitviper is a live-bearing forest viper from southern Mexico through Central America into northwestern Colombia. Revalidated in the 2024 revision of the eyelash-viper complex, it includes Central American stock formerly labeled Bothriechis schlegelii.
Raised scales over the eyes, a prehensile tail and variable green or yellow coloration distinguish it. Zoo and specialist collections provide secure climbing space and sheltered retreats. Its venom is medically significant, and dangerous-animal possession rules can apply.
