Crossbred

Crossbred California quail is an informal aviculture term rather than a recognized breed name. It may describe Callipepla californica with mixed captive line ancestry, crosses between color varieties such as silver, fawn, white, or wild-type, or occasionally hybrids involving closely related New World quail. California quail are small crested gamebirds from western North America, with covey behavior, scaled-looking underparts, and a forward-curving plume on the head.

Crossbred birds need the same practical management as other California quail: a secure planted aviary, dry footing, shelter from weather, and a gamebird diet with extra protein for chicks and breeding hens. They are generally flighty aviary birds, not hands-on pets. Captive crossbred or hybrid quail should never be released, and they should be kept separate from any stock intended for conservation, research, or local wild-population work.

Colors: Dove, Fawn, Silver, White, Wild‑Type
