Mixed Morph
A mixed morph black-headed python is an Aspidites melanocephalus carrying, or suspected of carrying, more than one captive color or pattern trait. The normal species already has a glossy black head and neck, a banded tan to brown body, and no visible heat-sensing pits, so unusual animals need careful documentation. Morph projects may involve traits such as axanthic, caramel, ghost, granite, reduced pattern, stripe, or possible het albino lines, but a mixed label should be supported by pairing records rather than appearance alone.
In practical keeping, a mixed morph black-headed python is still a large, muscular terrestrial snake that favors warm conditions, secure hides, and a calm enclosure layout. Most captive adults feed on rodents, though young animals can be tentative and should not be rushed. Breeders need to plan pairings carefully, since recessive traits and uncertain parentage can produce confusing results. Buyers should ask what genes are proven, what is only possible, whether the animal is visual or het, and how the parents were identified.
