Winding Trails Ranch

Winding Trails Ranch is home to Barbados blackbelly sheep in Mayfield, KY in western Kentucky near Paducah. James Savage has raised these sheep for over 15 years, holding memberships with the American Sheep Industry Association and ensuring routine health screening for parasites and hoof care.

They graze on rotational pastures with access to shaded shelters and receive daily interaction from the family to support gentle temperaments. Several of their sheep have been featured at local county fairs for conformation and hardiness, reflecting the ranch’s commitment to breed standards. Lambs are socialized from birth and introduced to handling routines early, which makes them steady around people.

Facilities include a small milking area for observation and a hooped shelter that doubles as a lambing pen during spring. The ranch operates on a philosophy of sustainable stewardship, rotating flocks to maintain pasture health and biodiversity. Though focused on breeding quality sheep, Winding Trails Ranch also offers community workshops on pasture management and animal welfare to local growers.
