Windemere Farm

Windemere Farm, Scottish highland cattle, Enosburg Falls, VT, Franklin County near Burlington. Owned and operated by Jay Sheperd, the farm has developed its highland line for over a decade and maintains registration with the American Highland Cattle Association.

All breeding stock undergoes annual health screenings, including tests for Johne’s disease and bovine viral diarrhea. The herd grazes rotationally on lush green Vermont pastures and calves are gently handled from birth to encourage calm temperaments. Cattle remain outdoors year-round with access to shelter, emphasizing natural behaviors for resilience in snowy winters.

Windemere Farm’s approach combines traditional husbandry with soil-building practices, returning composted manure to the fields. This careful management yields robust, healthy animals well-suited to small-scale and homestead operations. The cattle often draw attention for their distinctive long horns and thick coats, showcasing natural heritage qualities prized in the Scottish highland breed.
