Wildrose Working Belgians

Wildrose Working Belgians, run by Dawn Kundert, raises working-line Belgian Tervuren on a small farm in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, roughly 25 miles west of Madison. Dawn's history with the breed stretches back more than 30 years, though her focus on working lines began around 2011.

The program's stated mission is to safeguard the qualities of the working Belgian Tervuren and produce dogs that are sound in mind and body, suited for the work and sport their owners want to pursue. Breeding stock is selected for social, biddable temperaments and athletic structure, with the goal of producing offspring that are clear-headed, environmentally stable, and built for a strong work ethic. Some of the program's dogs have gone on to careers in search and rescue, service work, IGP/Mondio Ring, agility, dock diving, and personal protection, among other disciplines.

Health testing is a central part of the program. OFA hip, elbow, and eye certifications are obtained on all breeding dogs, and the program also screens for SDCA-1 and SDCA-2, thyroid hormone levels, degenerative myelopathy, spondylosis, extra vertebrae, and CJM. Puppies are raised in the home, in a multi-dog, multi-cat environment with regular human activity, to support early socialization. The farm itself also raises Clun Forest sheep, giving the dogs a genuine working-farm context.
