Wells' Providence
Wells' Providence raises AKC-registered great Pyrenees on a 33-acre homestead in Silex, Missouri, in Lincoln County — roughly an hour northwest of St. Louis. Tina Wells and her family have been working with the breed since 1998, when they brought home their first great Pyrenees after building out a working farm that includes Nigerian dwarf goats, sheep, cattle, pigs, and poultry.
The program grew directly out of a need for livestock protection, and the dogs remain active working guardians on the property alongside their role as family companions. Puppies are born in the home, handled daily from birth, and receive early neurological and bio-sensory stimulation to support healthy nervous system and immune system development. Puppy selection begins at six weeks, after aptitude testing is complete, so that livestock guardian traits versus companion traits can be properly assessed before placement.
On the health side, Wells' Providence participates in the OFA's CHIC Program and selects breeding pairs that meet the great Pyrenees breed standard in conformation and temperament. Families looking for great Pyrenees puppies in Missouri from a working-farm background will find the program oriented around both utility and long-term dog welfare, including a take-back policy intended to keep dogs out of shelters.
