Wasem Red Angus

Wasem Red Angus raises registered red Angus cattle near Halliday, North Dakota, in the heart of the state's southwest ranch country, roughly an hour southeast of Dickinson.

Run by Chris and Jolyn Wasem, the operation got its start in 2004 with a commercial herd of red Angus and Simmental cows. The Wasems transitioned into registered seedstock and held their first bull sale in 2012, steadily growing the registered side of the herd by retaining their best heifers each year to strengthen the genetics they offer.

Selection is built around balanced EPDs and phenotype, with disposition treated as non-negotiable across the entire cowherd. Genetics have been sourced from respected producers around the country, with significant influence from Pieper Red Angus, Berwalds, and Leland Red Angus. Bulls are evaluated starting at weaning, with weight, phenotype, and structure all scrutinized before any animal makes it to sale. The Wasems hold a consistent standard: if they would not use an animal in their own program, they do not offer it to customers.
