Wandering Acres Ranch breeds Australian shepherds in Mount Vernon, Washington, situated in Skagit County about an hour north of Seattle in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. The program is run by Amanda Kirk and carries registrations with the AKC, ASCA, ASDR, and IMASC, with most dogs carrying triple registration across those organizations.

The ranch's stated goal is to produce Australian shepherds that are equally at home as family companions, working dogs, and show ring competitors. Temperament is a central pillar of the selection process — aggressive dogs and aggressive bloodlines are not brought into the program, and the same standards applied to the dogs raised on the property are held for any outside breeding stock considered.
