Von Forell Ranch

Von Forell Ranch raises red Angus cattle near Wheatland, Wyoming, about 70 miles north of Cheyenne in the heart of southeastern Wyoming's Platte County ranching country. The family's cattle history traces back to the early 1900s, with Hereford Association records showing registered cattle as far back as 1904 and a documented Denver champion bull in 1912.

The red Angus program took shape in 1993 when Hardy von Forell acquired a cowherd from his father-in-law Leo McDonnell's estate, a herd built on a foundation of performance-tested genetics from one of the first performance bull test stations of its kind. That same year, operations consolidated onto the Chugwater Creek Ranch, where the diversified operation now combines registered seedstock production, a commercial all-English herd, haying, and small grain farming.

The ranch has a long record at major livestock shows, including the National Western Stock Show in Denver, the Fort Worth Stock Show, the NAILE in Louisville, and the NILE in Billings. Show records include national champion and reserve champion bulls and females in the red Angus breed. Hardy and Mary von Forell, along with their three children who represent the fifth generation in the seedstock business, continue to produce red Angus bulls for sale in Wyoming and beyond, with genetics marketed across North America and into South America.
