Stone Ridge Australian Shepherds

Stone Ridge Australian Shepherds, run by Jennifer Cannon and Cherrie Cannon, has been breeding Australian shepherds in Riverton, Utah since 1989. Riverton sits in the Salt Lake Valley, roughly 20 miles south of Salt Lake City, making it one of the longer-running sources for Australian shepherd puppies in the greater Wasatch Front area.

The program competes in both AKC and ASCA conformation, and the dogs in their kennel carry titles across both registries. Health testing on their Australian shepherds includes OFA hip and elbow evaluations, annual eye clearances, and a thorough panel of genetic tests covering MDR1, HSF4, CEA/Ch, DM, HUU, NCL/NCL6, PRA-PRCD, CMR1, and CD, among others.

Competition results show a consistent presence at national-level events, including ASCA and USASA National Specialties, with several dogs earning premier and best-of-breed placements. The kennel has operated across multiple generations of ownership under the Cannon family, and breeding decisions reflect an emphasis on health, temperament, and conformation as a combined package rather than any single trait in isolation.
