Stachowski Alpacas, LLC has been raising alpacas on its farm in Mantua, Ohio since 1984, making it one of the earliest alpaca operations established in the United States. Owner Anthony Stachowski, a large animal veterinarian, was among the first to acquire alpacas when they were initially imported to North America, and he went on to become one of the founding figures behind the national breed registry and show association.

The farm spans hundreds of rolling acres in northeastern Ohio, roughly an hour from Cleveland, and has maintained a herd of primarily huacaya alpacas built on strong Peruvian bloodlines. In 1995, Stachowski personally traveled to cooperatives in the highlands of Peru, including Alianza, Accoyo, and Sollocota, to hand-select breeding stock, taking detailed notes on each animal evaluated for fineness, density, uniformity, and conformation.
